  7. Despite the presence of the 1st SS Panzer Division, the 1st Guards Tank Brigade was ordered once more into battle. While most of forces on both sides fought along the Merchik River, the 1st Guards Tank Brigade crossed the river and fought their way towards Kovyagi Station. Seeing this, the Germans concentrated their panzer divisions and fell on the advance guards who were to break the way for the rest of the mobile forces.
